As of tomorrow morning I will officially be medically separated from Peace Corps. They're giving me the option to reinstate in June, but that possibility is dependent on how the Morocco staff are doing with their new staj at that time and if I get an all clear from my doctor. But chances are I probably won't be going back to Morocco.
I also don't have SVT (supraventricular tachycardia). I finally got away from my podunk cardiologist in TN and went to an electrophysiologist in DC. He ran a completely terrifying test on me where they see if they can induce a fainting episode and if they can it proves you have neurocardiogenic syncope. I fainted, so that's what I've got. It's not really a big deal at all, it just means my brain for some reason interprets me as always being a little dehydrated, so when I do actually get dehydrated it's like, "ohshit! better faceplant and try to chip some teeth on the way down!" The treatment is to start eating a lot of salt and drinking a lot of water and if that doesn't work, maybe go on medication. To me and my doctor it didn't seem like that big of a deal, but Peace Corps disagreed.
I'm disappointed I don't get to finish service with my staj and that I don't get to go back to Morocco and finally make something out of my service. But I knew the chances of me being able to head back were slim and so I've been slowly making my peace with it over the past month. Of course, that doesn't mean this doesn't suck and I won't miss all my friends over there terribly. But it is what it is, and tomorrow I start job searching for real. DCians, I'll probably be headed your way soon.
